Teaching
Teaching Artist – Wheelock Family Theatre, Say Inc.
Anika teaches classes and workshops in technical theater hoping to expand access to this work to younger people. Her early start in technical theater inspired her to seek young voices and open up theater spaces to people who would like to participate in areas offstage. Anika has been teaching a technical theater course to grades 6 – 12 at Wheelock for the past four years, and running workshops for high school students at Say Inc. and Highlander Theater Company for the past two years. Teaching materials are available by request.
Authentic Representation of Reality – Workshop
This workshop series debuted at UMass Amherst and is a step in opening conversations about identity in theater and work spaces. The intent of the workshop is to break down identity into tangible layers to provide language for difficult conversations. Authentic Representation of Reality also includes and cultivates space for community conversations in order to address room for growth, harm, and to help build actionable steps to improve the spaces it applies to. Anika’s work as a trained mediator and organizer is put to work to help cultivate these conversations.
Democracy Works – Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Course
Co-facilitated by Anika for three years, Democracy Works is a course surrounding understanding and participating in democracy, as a larger concept and at the state level. The purpose of the course is to make government accessible as a resource rather than complex structures that seem insurmountable. This serves also as guidelines for activism and organizing to provide a framework to work on issues that participants are interested in and passionate about.
Workshops are available by request via email or phone!
